360 Performance Program

Performance measurements are standards used by cities to help measure the effectiveness of services that they provide. Good performance measures help the city improve efficiencies, justify resources, and be responsive to citizen priorities. An example of a performance measurement standard is the amount of time it takes for a fire department to respond to a call. Comparing the City’s results to national standards and local priorities helps the City evaluate and improve its services.

Thanks to a grant from the National Center for Civic Innovation (NCCI), Derby is on the cutting edge of the performance movement. Derby’s 360 Performance Program is innovative in its approach by getting a 360 degree perspective of all involved in the creation of its new performance measurements including input from citizens, businesses, elected and appointed city leaders, city staff, and others.

We encourage you to surf the Related Pages to learn more about the 360 Performance Program. The progress made in developing the 360 Performance Program is due to the faithful participation of Derby community members, local leaders, and City professional staff. Thanks to their collaborative efforts, Derby will soon be able to report on the specific value of public services and target future improvements.

City staff is currently tracking performance throughout the pilot year (September 2007 to September 2008). The City will publish an Annual Performance Report beginning in October 2008.
