Zoning and Subdivision Regulation Amendments

On September 17, 2020, the Planning Commission created a steering committee to guide amendments to the City’s zoning and subdivision regulations. The steering committee will develop recommendations to the Planning Commission that are needed to implement the recently adopted comprehensive plan. The recently adopted Vision Derby 2040 Comprehensive Plan identifies several new policy priorities for which amendments to the zoning and subdivision regulations are needed, including: mixed-use development, walkable development, development of special districts in Derby's town center, and revitalization of existing neighborhoods. Opportunities to streamline development review and permitting processes and to clarify ambiguous regulations also will be explored.

The steering committee will meet each month on the third Tuesday from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at City Hall in the City Council Room, 661 N. Mulberry Rd., Ste. 300. The meetings are open to the public. However, the steering is a working committee, so public comment will not be taken at the meetings. Instead, a community engagement process will gather public input for the steering committee to consider, and public comment will be taken at meetings of the Planning Commission. Due to COVID19, social distancing protocols will be in effect during steering committee meetings. Attendees are encouraged to RSVP at least one day prior to the meeting to Scott Knebel, City Planner, at scottknebel@derbyweb.com or (316) 788-6632 ext. 1236 so that appropriate arrangements for social distancing can be made.

The steering committee meetings will occur on the following dates at 5:30 p.m. in City Council Room. An agenda and discussion material will be posted about one week in advance of each meeting and will remain posted for past meetings.
