Landscape to Save Water

Derby experienced historic flooding in 2016. We had so much water around us, the last thing most people were thinking was, “I need to conserve water in my yard landscape.” But if we flashback a few years to 2013, South Central Kansas was in a massive drought, and Derby declared a stage 1 water watch to heighten awareness of water conditions to help maintain the integrity of the city’s water supply.

Go Red for Women

While we normally encourage Derbyites to wear green on Fridays, on Feb. 3 how about wearing red? Why red? By wearing red, you will show your support for the American Heart Association’s annual observance to raise awareness about women’s heart health: Go Red for Women.

Happy 150th Anniversary?

Our city was founded in 1869 when the Alexander Garrett family’s covered wagon stopped on the banks of the Spring Creek, and the family laid a claim and built a sod house. This means 2019 will be Derby’s 150th anniversary. Shall we have a party?
