[ARCHIVED] Favorite People

371 of the City of Derby’s 9,000 water customers have recently enrolled in paperless billing. These 371 Derby residents are my favorite people in the whole city. They now receive their monthly water bills in their email accounts instead of their USPS mailboxes. Why? They find it convenient, especially for those who travel, spend part of the year at their lake houses, or who have limited storage space.

Personally, my electric, gas, cable, trash and water bills all come to my paperless billing signemail, which I find easy to file away and access if needed. It also will save me the hassle of shredding them later on. Guess I feel I’m doing my part for the environment too, as well as helping keep costs down for public utilities—which in the end helps all the ratepayers.

In just two months, 4% of our water customers chose to be a part of this program—which is an impressive amount for such a brief period of time. Enrolling in June makes you eligible to win a $50 credit on your water bill or a free rain barrel. Derby resident John Good was the first winner of this prize last month, and another will be selected on June 30.

You know why these 371 people are my favorites? Together, they have just saved the City roughly $2,670 per year in printing and mailing these monthly bills. WOW. We at the City of Derby understand providing governmental and community services requires us to think in new ways to reduce costs and achieve better value for customers. Will you join us in this effort?
