What do you get when you combine BBQ, drinks, music, contests, face painters,
cars and contests? The 7th Annual Derby BBQ Festival at High Park on Sept. 8 and 9.
This free (yes, free admission and parking) festival, presented by Security 1st Title, will be held at High Park, 2801 E. James.
Join me at the park Friday night for the BBQ kick-off, which includes the new Kid's Q event, music by Morrison County (a Derby-based country band), food trucks, and adult beverages. The Kid's Q will feature two age categories for kids 15 and under who will cook hamburger and chicken on a charcoal grill. Get your entry form at www.DerbyBBQ.com. On-site parking will be available on Friday night only. Enter the park on James St. due to construction on Madison Ave.
On Saturday, Sept. 9, the Derby BBQ Festival will feature the KCBS (Kansas City BBQ Society) Cook-off, Fidelity Bank Backyard BBQ Cook-off, Verus Bank and Creekstone Farms People's Choice Contest, Rods-N-Ribs Charity Car Show, food trucks, Derby Noon Lions Club Beer Garden, and music by Last Great Summer (alternative rock) and Haven Alexandra (country/folk). Kids can enjoy the El Paso Animal Clinic Petting Zoo, inflatables, magician, face painters, Princess Pros Entertainment and more.
Another new contest this year is the BRG Precision Products Anything on a Stick Contest (dessert and non-dessert categories). Let’s see how creative you can get! Get your entry form at www.DerbyBBQ.com.
Due to construction on Madison Ave., public parking on Sept. 9 will not be available (ADA parking only). We ask that you park at Rock River Rapids or Derby High School and ride a shuttle to the park. Don’t forget your cash and ID.
Proceeds from this event benefit the McConnell Air Force Base Airman and Family Readiness Center.
See you at the BBQ!
