[ARCHIVED] Why Vote?

The original item was published from November 2, 2017 2:20 PM to November 2, 2017 2:23 PM

What are you doing on November 7? Well, it’s General Election Day in Sedgwickvote County. You may vote between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. for new members of the Derby City Council and Derby Board of Education.

If you live in the city limits of Derby, your ballot will include the selection of a City Council member. While most Derby residents will have a ballot with only one name (those running unopposed), Ward 3 residents will choose between two people, Andrew Swindle and Van Willis.

Five people are running for three seats on the school board. Regardless of where you live in the USD 260 school district, you get to vote for three of the five candidates. They include Rick Coleman, Justin Kippenberger, Mark May, Andy Watkins and Becky Linot (at this time, Linot has said she will not accept the seat if elected).

If you are busy on Nov. 7, here are the days and times you can vote beforehand:

Advance Voting
Nov. 1-3 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Nov. 6 from 8 a.m. to noon
Sedgwick County Historic Courthouse, 501 N. Main St., Suite 101 in Wichita

Nov. 2 & 3 from noon to 7 p.m. and Nov. 4 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Woodlawn United Methodist Church, 431 S. Woodlawn Blvd. in Derby

Nov. 7: Election Day

I know you are passionate about Derby and care about your schools. I encourage you to take the time to vote for new leaders in your community.
