Special City Council Meeting

Thursday, April 9, 2020

The Derby City Council will hold a special meeting on Thursday, April 9.

The Derby City Council will hold a special meeting on Thursday, April 9 at 10:30 a.m. at Derby City Hall, 611 N. Mulberry Road, in the Council Room. The agenda will include the following:

  • Approval of Minutes from March 24, 2020
  • Consideration of a Request from Rock Regional Hospital for a Loan Guarantee
  • Executive Session (if needed, to discuss data relating to financial affairs or trade secrets of second parties and/or matters deemed to be of attorney-client privilege)
  • Ordinance Repealing Municipal Code Provision on Special Meetings
  • Purchase of Land for Future Street Project
  • Municipal Court Operations

Social distancing protocols will be in place during this meeting. Most elected officials will participate via conference call. Minimal staff, elected officials, and hospital representatives will attend in person to keep ten or fewer people in the Council Room. The doors of City Hall will be locked, but the public is welcome to watch the Council meeting online at or on Cox Cable Channel 7.

The agenda packet will be published to the website on Wednesday, April 8. The packet will include more information about the agenda items.

“On Wednesday, April 1, Rock Regional Hospital made a general verbal request to the City to help guarantee a bank loan for which it is applying,” said Kathy Sexton, City Manager. “As I understand it, a similar request was made to Sedgwick County, and discussion by the Board of County Commissioners is scheduled to occur at its regular meeting on Wednesday, April 8. We expect to receive details about the hospital’s request Monday and Tuesday, and that information will be included in the agenda packet.”

“Most of these agenda items have recently arisen due to circumstances involving the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Sexton. “Because the regular meeting for April 14 had already been canceled, some agenda items were included in this special meeting simply to accomplish city business in a timely manner.” The next regular meeting of the City Council is scheduled for April 28 at 6:30 p.m. If needs arise, additional special meetings could be called before then.
