City of Derby Coronavirus Update: March 17


The City of Derby is working to alter the way it does business to minimize the spread of COVID-19. Derby City Hall, Welcome Center and Senior Center are temporarily closed starting March 18. City staff are working normal business hours and are available to assist you via phone and email. 

Trash and recycling services will continue as normal. We apologize for any confusion.

Permits, Licenses & Inspections

  • Applications will be available inside the front doors of City Hall or at
  • Email completed forms to or leave in the drop box in front of City Hall labeled “Water Payments Only.”
  • To pay using a credit/debit card, call 316-788-1519 or put a check in the water payment drop box.
  • Large plans can be left in the designated box inside the front doors of City Hall along with corresponding application and payment.
  • The City has implemented new procedures for inspection of new water heaters and heating/air conditioning systems in homes currently occupied. Contractors installing water heaters and HVAC equipment will be given instructions on how to submit a video of their installation so a City inspector does not need to enter the home. Inspections of new construction (unoccupied) will continue as normal.

  • You can also get a new service form inside the front doors of City Hall and return to our water payment drop box.

Congregate Meals/Meals on Wheels
Lunch at the Derby Senior Center will continue to be served through Friday, March 20. Seniors can enter using the west door and be served between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. After Friday, lunch will transition to delivered meals only.

March 19 Planning Commission Meeting
The Derby Planning Commission meeting will be held as scheduled on Thursday, March 19 at 6:30 p.m. at Derby City Hall. Measures are being taken to ensure only essential personnel will attend, and appropriate distance will be between everyone attending. The meeting is open to the public, but we encourage you to watch online at 7 or on Cox Cable Channel 7. Meetings are also available on demand on our website.

Park Restrooms Closed
Public restrooms at City parks are closed to reduce the risk of spreading the virus.

Spring into Art Rescheduled
The fourth annual Spring Into Art event, originally scheduled for April 19, has been moved to Sunday, Oct. 4. It will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Madison Avenue Central Park.

Note for Those in Self-Quarantine
Anyone who has been instructed to self-quarantine for 14 days is prohibited from entering any City building and from riding the Derby Dash bus during their quarantine period.

“Protecting public health is clearly our priority,” said Mayor Randy White. “Everyone in the community is dealing with a lot right now. We all have concerns, and I am confident we will get through this. It is also a good time to check on neighbors and family.”
