Madison Avenue Closed Beginning April 10

Madison Avenue Improvement Project
The Madison Avenue Improvement Project from Derby High School to High Park will begin Monday, April 10. The project will widen Madison Ave. to three lanes, including a two-way left turn lane. Improvements also include curb and gutter, a five-foot wide sidewalk on the south side of the street, a crosswalk across Madison near Valley Stream Drive, and underground pipes to better manage stormwater runoff.

On April 10, Madison Avenue (79th Street South) will close to through traffic at High Park and remain closed for about a month to make improvements that cannot be accomplished with the street open. Access to adjacent properties will be maintained at all times.

Beginning April 10 and throughout most of construction, traffic will be one-way westbound. Eastbound traffic should use detour routes on Meadowlark Blvd. (71st Street South) and connecting with Greenwich Rd. and Rock Road.

Willow Creek Street will be closed at Madison throughout most of the project. Residents of the Spring Creek neighborhood are advised to use Osage Road or Zachary Drive for access to and from their homes.

Visitors to High Park and residents of Timberleaf and Bel Arbor neighborhoods are advised to use James Street instead of Madison Avenue.

“We appreciate your patience while we work to improve the streets of Derby,” said Dan Squires, City Engineer. “This project will provide improved access and safety east of Rock Road along with a more pedestrian-friendly streetscape.”

The project should be completed in early 2018. If you have questions, contact Ky Louanghaksaphone, P.E., at KyLouanghaksaphone@derbyweb.com or 788-6632.
