Road Construction Update: Sept. 6, 2017

Nelson Drive

The City of Derby would like to update residents about on-going street projects that started earlier this year.

Nelson Dr. & Meadowlark Blvd. Improvement Project
Nelson Dr. is now open to traffic. There are still a few items that need to be completed, such as permanent signage, seeding and general cleanup. This project should be completed in the next few weeks.

The new Nelson Dr. curves east around the back side of Burger King, QuikTrip and Ultra Modern Pool & Patio. Nelson Dr. is now a two-lane street with curb and gutter and an improved drainage system.

“This project improves the safety of the City’s most dreaded intersection,” said Dan Squires, city engineer. “We are grateful to the Kansas Department of Transportation and the Derby City Council for devoting scarce resources to this previously dangerous intersection.”

Madison Avenue Improvement Project
Work on Madison Avenue east of Derby High School is continuing with the drainage structure at Timberleaf being extended. It is scheduled to be completed in early 2018.

During this phase of construction, the street is still all one-way westbound. Please do not drive the wrong way. Not only is it dangerous, it’s against the law. Derby police are actively monitoring this construction zone.
