Citizen Police Academy

Have you ever thought about a career in law enforcement? Would you like to learn more about the Derby Police Department? If you answered “yes” to either of these questions, then the Citizen Police Academy is the place for you!
Derby’s Citizen Police Academy runs from February 16 to May 4, 2010. This is a free, 12-week class offered to the public. Participants are required to be a resident of Derby, work in Derby, or own a business in Derby and be at least 18 years of age.
Classes will be held on Tuesdays from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at the Police & Courts Building, 229 N. Baltimore. There will be a graduation ceremony and formal banquet at the conclusion of the academy.
Through discussion, demonstration and hands-on experience, participants will explore a variety of topics, including patrol and response to calls, criminal investigation, use of force, and legal issues involving search, seizure and interrogation. In addition, participants will have an opportunity to ride with an officer on a shift.
Applications may be picked up and submitted at the Derby Police Department, 229 N. Baltimore. Applicants will not be accepted if they have felony or serious misdemeanor convictions.
