City of Derby News Release

City Accepting Applications for HOME Rehabilitation Grant
August 4, 2008

The City of Derby is accepting applications for its HOME Rehabilitation Grant Program. The $200,000 HOME Rehabilitation Grant from the Kansas Housing Resources Corporation is the second HOME Grant awarded to the city; the first was in 2006.

The HOME Grant Program provides funding for repairs to owner-occupied housing. Common improvements include siding, roofing, windows, doors, electrical, plumbing and heating/air conditioning systems. Through these improvements, the program aims to preserve older neighborhoods and address concerns about declining property values.

The Derby grant will serve 10 homes inside the city’s designated target area, which is between Meadowlark and Chet Smith from Woodlawn to the west city limits (see map). Homes must be insured and current on property taxes. Properties located in the 100-year or 500-year floodplain are not eligible. When work is completed, a three-year forgivable loan is filed with the Register of Deeds; if the house is sold before the three year period is over, a portion of the funds used must be repaid.
