4th of July Events in the City of Derby

The City of Derby would like to thank everyone who participated in the 4th of July events in Derby. All events were well-attended and we look forward to seeing everyone next year! Check back next summer to see what the plans are for 2009.
Start your day off with...
Pancakes! A pancake and sausage breakfast, sponsored by the Derby Kiwanis, will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Derby Recreation Center, 801 E. Market.
Tickets can be purchased in advance by calling Clark Wise at 788-2685 or Jackie Byars at 776-0339. Advance tickets are $4/adults, $2.50/children 12 and under. Purchase your tickets at the door for $4.50 and $3. Proceeds will go towards youth services.

the Firecracker Race! The Derby Running Club is sponsoring a 1-mile and 4-mile race beginning at 7:30 a.m. The route will begin and end at the north end of High Park and will follow the bike path west on Madison, north through the high school parking lot, north or Rock Rd. and east on James.

Parade! The annual Derby VFW 4th of July Parade: Salute to American's Veterans begins at 10:00 a.m. The route begins at Derby Middle School, proceeds west on Madison to Georgie, south on Georgie to Market and east on Market back to the Middle School.

Give blood! The American Red Cross is holding a "Red, White and You" Blood Drive on Friday, July 4 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. You can meet men and women serving in our armed forces, and give blood in honor of their dedication, sacrifice, and service to America. You will receive a free T-shirt, have a chance to win a flat screen TV, and get a $2 pass to the Sedgwick County Zoo. Visit www.givelife.org to learn more.

Twins! The Derby Twins will play the Hays Larks at 5:00 p.m. at Panther Field, Woodlawn & Market. Admission is free, compliments of the City of Derby. The Twins will also be signing autographs at the City of Derby's 4th of July Celebration.
Bring your lawn chairs and coolers to...
High Park! The City of Derby's 4th of July Celebration begins at 7:00 p.m. at High Park, 2700 E. Madison. Events include live music by the SugarFree All Stars beginning at 7:30 p.m., free ice cream provided by Hiland Dairy, and a fantastic fireworks show accompanied by patriotic music that will begin at 9:30 p.m.
Also at High Park, the Derby Optimist Club will have several activites for kids, Pleasantview Baptist Church will provide free water, and volunteers will be on hand from Aviator Church.

Woodlawn United Methodist Church Fun Run
1/2-mile and 2-mile
8:00 a.m.
The route will start at Woolawn United Methodist Church (431 S. Woodlawn), proceed south on Chet Smith, east to the Park Hill Entrance, west to Woodlawn and end at the church parking lot.
