Know Your Neighbor?

You know the value of knowing who lives next door or down the street. But how often do you spend time with your neighbors?

On Tuesday, August 3, Derby joins the rest of the country in celebrating National Night Out, which means it’s time for neighbors to break bread together, discuss common interests, and relax a bit before summer is over.
Derby community police officers have offered to stop by your block party if you’d like to get to know them too. They will discuss any concerns on your street, crime in your neighborhood, and actions you can take to prevent unwelcome activities.

More importantly, police officers will answer your questions about anything you’re curious about. Did you know that you can give Police your emergency contact information when you are out of town so a police officer can reach you if anything happens to your home while you are on vacation? Did you know you could receive text messages when police are investigating a crime in your neighborhood? Do you have questions about barking dogs or other neighborhood nuisances?

Call Lt. Jimmy Queen at 788-1557 to let him know the time and location of your neighborhood gathering.

Another National Night Out event of interest especially to families is the free night at Rock River Rapids on Monday, August 2 at 6:00 p.m. Yes, that’s two nights of fun. The City of Derby believes two nights of “community” just has to be better than one.

So, bring your family, friends, or church group out to the premiere aquatic park in Kansas for the evening. Who knows…maybe you’ll see a neighbor there too.
