November 9, 2009
The new Derby Public Library, which will hold its grand opening November 14, will feature an art exhibition featuring the work of the late Dr. William Durnil. Durnil was a Derby native and local chiropractor, and known regionally for his talented artwork.
Some of the artwork in this exhibition has never been publicly showcased. The exhibition will be on display in the community room at the library, located at 1600 E. Walnut Grove.
A new bronze sculpture, given to the library by Durnil’s wife, Norma, will be a focal point in the library’s front entrance. The sculpture, named Scout, features an Indian and eagle, two American icons that Durnil painted on a frequent basis.
The library will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on November 14 and will return to its regular operating hours beginning Sunday, November 15 (9 a.m.-8:30 p.m. Monday thru Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 1-5 p.m. Sunday).
Durnil’s exhibit will be on display through the end of the year. If you have questions, please contact the Derby Public Library at 788-0760.
