The Operations Division is comprised of all the uniformed police services. The role of this division is to provide emergency law enforcement services to the citizens of Derby. Day-to-day operations include: emergency response to criminal activity, traffic enforcement, accident investigation, criminal investigation and reporting, crime prevention, and detection.

The division commander supervises all employees in this division and assists with planning and research, hiring, and grants.

Sub-Sections

Included in the Operations Division are the Patrol Officers and Station Officer Section, the Community Education Section, the Special Operations Team, the Reserve Section, and the Animal Control Section.

• The Patrol Officers Section is comprised of certified police officers responsible for crime prevention within the City of Derby. The Patrol Section contains three subsections: Patrol Officers, the Station Officer, and Beat Teams.
• The Special Operations Team is a highly trained tactical response unit that supports the emergency response role of the Patrol Section. This group is called upon to serve high-risk search warrants, manage barricaded suspects, and resolve hostage situations.
• The Reserve Section is comprised of volunteers trained to serve in a limited capacity as law enforcement officers. This unit is called upon during staffing shortages and other instances such as parades and special events.
• The Community Education Section is comprised of one Supervisor and four School Resource Officers who provide crime prevention and education services for students and citizens.
• The Animal Control Section is comprised of one full time Animal Control Officer and one part time Animal Control Officer. Animal Control assists with any issues concerning animals and gives educational presentations to civic groups, neighborhood associations, and school classes.
