Scout was established in memory of Dr. William Durnil who was a local physician and artist. His wife, Norma, designated the Derby Community Foundation as Dr. Durnil’s memorial and used the funds to purchase this bronze. Dr. Durnil's love for eagles is reflected in the bronze featuring an eagle on the shoulder of a Native American scout.
