Will and His Trains

Madison Avenue Central Park
512 E. Madison Ave.
Artist: Tom White

Will and His Trains was established in memory of E. Keith Volz and purchased with funding from the Derby Community Foundation, the Volz family and memorial funds.

Keith was an active member of the Derby community, serving on many boards, including the Derby Community Foundation Board, Derby Planning Commission, Derby Board of Zoning Appeals and the Derby Chamber of Commerce. He was also a longtime Derby Rotary Club member.

Madison Avenue Central Park made an ideal location for Voltz's memorial as he was part of the original planning committee of the park. The statue was installed July 27, 2017.

Voltz, who passed away Feb. 7, 2015, enjoyed model trains and spending time with his grandchildren. These attributes are reflected in his bronze statue memorial of a young boy holding model trains.

The award-winning artist, Tom White, based this work on a young boy, Will Poteet-Berndt, who passed away at the age of four from leukemia. Poteet-Berndt loved model trains and resided in Louisville, Kentucky.
